Mango brings mangiferin — a lesser-known polyphenol with its own anti-inflammatory record — and enough natural sweetness to carry a proper dose of fresh turmeric without tasting like a health drink. The coconut milk supplies the fat curcumin needs to absorb.

Tip: Fresh turmeric stains — peel it under running water and wipe the blender out straight away, and the colour stays in the glass where it belongs.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1cm piece fresh turmeric, peeled (or ½ tsp ground)
  • ½ frozen banana
  • ¾ cup coconut milk
  • Squeeze of lime juice
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 3–4 ice cubes

Method

  1. Add the coconut milk, turmeric, lime and black pepper to the blender and blitz to break down the root.
  2. Add the mango, banana and ice.
  3. Blend on high until completely smooth, thick and glowing orange.
  4. Pour into a tall glass and drink cold.
