Turmeric's curcumin is the most studied anti-inflammatory compound in the spice rack — and it needs fat and black pepper to absorb, which is exactly what the almond butter and pinch of pepper provide. The oats add the soluble fibre your gut bacteria feed on.

Tip: Don't skip the black pepper — piperine makes curcumin dramatically more absorbable, and one pinch is undetectable in the finished jar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1¼ cups milk of choice
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flaked almonds

Method

  1. Add the oats, milk, turmeric, almond butter, maple, cinnamon and black pepper to a jar.
  2. Stir well until the turmeric is evenly mixed through and the oats are an even gold.
  3. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or at least 4 hours.
  4. In the morning, stir and loosen with a splash of milk if the oats feel thick.
  5. Top with sliced banana, flaked almonds and a final dusting of cinnamon.
